Ailava Samuels, who previously held the title of Miss Fiji 2025 first runner-up and Miss Nasinu, has been chosen to represent Fiji at the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands 2026 pageant in Nadi. This exciting announcement comes after the Miss Pacific Islands registrations closed last week, and the need to meet strict participation deadlines became paramount.
Ana Tuiketei, the Miss Fiji Pageant Director, confirmed this decision, explaining the situation. After an internal governance process, contractual reviews, and discussions with the Miss Fiji 2025 title holder, Dr. Peggy Ravusiro, a medical intern, it became clear that arrangements couldn't be finalized in time.
But here's where it gets controversial... Dr. Ravusiro formally declined to enter into a contractual obligation with the Miss Fiji Secretariat. This led the Miss Fiji Committee to approach the first runner-up, Ailava Samuels, offering her the standard participation contract.
Samuels accepted the role last Thursday and has since entered into the same contractual obligations initially offered to the title holder. The Miss Fiji Pageant Committee has already sprung into action, preparing Samuels for the regional competition.
Tuiketei has called on the public to support Fiji's representative, expressing confidence that Samuels will proudly represent the nation, respect Pacific cultures, and promote Fiji on the regional stage.
Speaking about her upcoming role, Samuels emphasized her readiness to serve as a leader and ambassador. She highlighted the importance of preparation and responsibility in pageantry, stating that one of the key lessons she learned from her Miss Fiji Pageant experience was the value of being prepared. She is mentally ready and fully prepared to work alongside the Miss Fiji Pageant team.
